May 12, Psalm 65-67, 69-70
Psalm 65 The context of this Psalm is either a harvest or a feast, both of which are for and from God, and the Israelites (and us) are to Praise God for keeping His word. Blessed are those that God draws to Himself. We also learn that God is the one who helps us pull up our bootstraps, not us. We have a part to play, yes. But it is God who fights our battles. What is a great thing about being in God? You will be satisfied with God’s goodness. David talks about God’s awesomeness and power and He is our salvation, our hope, our strength, and source of joy. God is active in His creation and we can delight in God’s work for us.
Psalm 66 Shout, sing, praise, speak the awesomeness of our God! There is none more powerful than God. I love this part, ‘Come and see what God has done: He is awesome in his deeds toward the children of man.’ Isn't that incredible - come and check out God, He is awesome. Again the Psalmist reminds us to never forget what God has done, which is why we tell others about what He has done! God is to be blessed by us because He always brings us through. Testify about God’s goodness and God giving us answers. Rely on God’s everlasting and steadfast love for every situation and your entire life.
Psalm 67 Here is a prayer with thanks that God has brought us through, even in the midst of it. Notice the ‘May’ and the ‘Let’ - these are terms of petition, us asking God to be great in our world and our nations! Trust Him and go to Him.
Psalm 69 Self-inflicted pain can sometimes be horrific. What do you do? Cry out to God to save you, especially when you feel like you are drowning and weak. We cannot hide our sins from God, so go to Him and confess, trusting He will redeem your sin - because He can. When is a good time to go to God? ‘But as for me, my prayer is to you, O Lord. At an acceptable time, O God, in the abundance of your steadfast love answer me in your saving faithfulness.’ How about now? God knows all things, but we are still to confess to Him and leave the results up to Him. God will have His way with those against Him and those for Him.
Psalm 70 Be specific in your prayers to God. Like David here, he is crying out to God to hurry and help him. Seek and you will find Him. Can you say this to God… I need you now!? Is there anything you need more than God? I can honestly say, no.
To sum it all up:
- God is awesome, and powerful, He is our salvation, our hope, our strength, and source of joy. Honestly, that is just incredible stuff to think that we can serve and love this God who is so powerful.
- There is none more powerful than God. Whatever your trial or frustration, go to God - He is the only source of true help. God uses His people to take care of His people, but it is God who orchestrates and lines it all up.
- God is not boring, actually that is a word that could never describe our Yahweh!
- Go to God, now. Cry to Him, plead for Him to take care of you - He will!!!
