About this study

Thanks for stopping by my site. I decided last year (2015) to do a Bible study/commentary while going through the Bible chronologically. It is geared more towards those who haven't read much of the Bible... Join me on this journey?

May 10: Psalm 50, 53, 60, 75

May 10, Psalm 50, 53, 60, 75

Psalm 50 God doesn't need our sacrifices, He needs our obedience. God calls his people to Himself and is the ultimate Judge for now and eternity. In this Psalm, God wasn’t angry about the sacrifices, but about the wicked doing sacrifices with hearts far from Him. Everything in the world is God’s, including the animals that were sacrificed. God doesn’t ‘need’ anything from us, but He wants our lives and hearts to pursue Him. For those that hate His discipline will be rebuked. Those that slander people and gossip and hurt with their words, will be rejected by Him. The one who is thankful and God is Glorified in their lives, will be saved by God.

Psalm 53 This Psalm is nearly identical to Psalm 14 and were most likely alternate versions of the same hymn back in the day. What is the reason for this Psalm? We should be upset that people are not seeking God. Only a fool says there is no God. This is not about intellectual ability but about morality, and someone who rejects wisdom and ignores the fact that God cares about human life. The Lord is looking down from heaven to see who is seeking him, and really - nobody is seeking Him. This is a stark reminder about how much we need God because He is the one drawing us to Him, not the other way around.

Psalm 60 This was a Psalm when the Israelites were getting ready for battle. We are reminded that God shields us and we can go to Him to be delivered. Even when things look dim, we too can praise God for bringing us through our battles.

Psalm 75 Give praise and cling to God! Again, continue to remember what God has done for you. God is the ultimate Judge over everything and is against the proud and boastful - God is the one who executes judgement on them, not us. What are we to do? Just declare God’s love forever and God will take care of us and lift us up!

To sum it all up:

  • What has God done for you? Maybe you need to write it all out so that you can remember. Write down his goodness and mercy. Here is one thing that my wife came up with that we do in our home so that we don’t forget what Yahweh has done. It is good to remember!
From the little things to the huge things, our family doesn't want to forget the Goodness and love of Yahweh our Lord and Savior!
