June 5, Proverbs 7-9
Proverbs 7 Is another parental warning to stay away from the adulteress woman. Treasure God’s words and make the teachings the apple of your eyes! We learn about a young man who willingly is looking for sexual sin and finds it. As he is out looking, she finds him and lures him in. Sexual sin is everywhere, especially with the internet now. It is literally everywhere and we must be diligent in hating it. She seduces him and he follows her and it leads to death. Sin ends in destruction and leads to hell - fight it and resist it - it’s not worth it!!!
Proverbs 8 There are many blessings for gaining wisdom and seeking wisdom. We must learn to pursue wisdom more than anything - anything. How does God feel about those that don’t seek Him and love evil? How are we supposed to view it? “The fear of the Lord is hatred of evil. Pride and arrogance and the way of evil and perverted speech I hate.” We are to hate evil like God does and be humble enough to know how much we really need Him. Instead, “I love those who love me, and those who seek me diligently find me.” Which camp would you rather be in? Oh it is so refreshing to hear about being found by God when we seek Him. In addition, we learn here that Christ is Wisdom. Always has been around, He always will be around. Seek Him while He may be found. What is the key to Christ? “For whoever finds me finds life and obtains favor from the Lord, but he who fails to find me injures himself; all who hate me love death.” All who hate God love death. All who find God find life.
Proverbs 9 Wisdom vs folly. Folly is waiting for the simple who are trying to do it on their own and are not pursuing God and are not teachable. “Do not reprove a scoffer, or he will hate you; reprove a wise man, and he will love you. Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be still wiser; teach a righteous man, and he will increase in learning.” Are you teachable? If you are reproved, you will learn and change. If you are arrogant and doing your own thing, you are not. Where do we go from here? “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is insight.” Start and finish with God. Its all about Him. Finishing it off, “Stolen water is sweet, and bread eaten in secret is pleasant. But he does not know that the dead[d] are there, that her guests are in the depths of Sheol.” Do not be deceived by the temptation of sin. Temporary pleasure leads to death. Don’t be blinded by your motives!
To sum it all up:
- Do you love God or evil?
- Are you fighting evil and sexual sin?
