June 14, 2 Chronicles 6-7, Psalm 136
2 Chronicles 6 is very similar to 1 Kings 8. The Chronicler wrote this for his generation, with a heavy emphasis on how the completion of the Temple is a reminder of the significance of God’s promises and enduring Kingdom. God has chosen Israel to be His people!
2 Chronicles 7 “As soon as Solomon finished his prayer, fire came down from heaven and consumed the burnt offering and the sacrifices, and the glory of the Lord filled the temple. 2 And the priests could not enter the house of the Lord, because the glory of the Lord filled the Lord's house.” Can you imagine? What an incredible presence to witness. Unbelievable! Then the Chronicler follows 1 Kings 8 again with the dedication of the temple. God responds with the promise that if obeyed, He would always be with them. If not, He would pluck them out.
Psalm 136 Give thanks to the Lord!!! The Temple was just finished and they were praising God because of His steadfast love. The Israelites had just witnessed God’s great workings and were working to not forget it - we have also witnessed God’s great works and we are not. Never forget what God has done for the Israelites and also for ourselves. God is always working, Remember what He has done and what He is doing!
To sum it all up:
- We have seen God work, but we often forget. We have seen God move, but we often forget. We have seen God do miracles, but we often forget. We need to remember God’s goodness, especially when times are tough - lean on Him and trust Him. He is steadfast and solid.
