About this study

Thanks for stopping by my site. I decided last year (2015) to do a Bible study/commentary while going through the Bible chronologically. It is geared more towards those who haven't read much of the Bible... Join me on this journey?

June 10: Proverbs 22-24

June 10, Proverbs 22-24

Proverbs 22 What are you going to make of the life that God has ordained for you? God is the designer of both the rich and the poor, for His purpose, so be humble in where God has put you. This has been a huge verse for my family, “Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.” Model Jesus for our kids with love and discipline with the anticipation that they will not swerve from Truths of Scripture. Because we also know that “Folly is bound up in the heart of a child, but the rod of discipline drives it far from him.” Honestly assess your kids and what they need, but don’t be afraid to discipline them for the good of their soul and future.
Then we move into the next ’30’ sayings of the wise. What a great section between 22:17-24:22! There are some that I wanted to comment on, and they all follow the main themes of Proverbs… Pretty basic, but we are to take care of the poor, not steal from them. And don’t hang out with people with anger issues, lest you become like them.

Proverbs 23 Don’t spend your life trying to get rich, but be discerning in your approach. Don’t waste your breath on fools because instead of gleaning from your wisdom, they will resent you. Desire to learn. Discipline your kids in love and you can save them from hell. Don’t envy sinners but fear God all day long and love Him. Don’t hang out with drunks or gluttons, their future is not looking so bright. Live a life that is pleasing to God and you will bless your parents. Flee from the pit of sexual immorality - literally have nothing to do with it. Be careful with how much alcohol you consume, it could consume you.

Proverbs 24 Don’t be jealous of evil people but rather be wise in how you go about establishing your life. If someone is on a path of destruction and not a fool, reach out to them and help them - rescue them. Additionally, we cannot fool God… He sees all and will hold us to an account of all we have done.
Plan for the future properly - assess your priorities.
“A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest, and poverty will come upon you like a robber, and want like an armed man.”  Laziness gets you poverty and leaves you wanting…

To sum it all up:

  • Be wise in your approach to life and have your desires reflect the desires of God in Christ through the Holy Spirit.
