October 15, Matt 8:14‐34, Mark 4‐5

Matthew & Mark continued…

Matthew 8:14-34 Jesus healed many, including Peter’s mother in law.  “This was to fulfill what was spoken by the prophet Isaiah: “He took our illnesses and bore our diseases.”

The cost of following Jesus is your life. He has called us to love Him 1st and put everything else 2nd. Another great story about one of the truths of Christ… Jesus and his disciples went and crossed the lake and they encountered a storm. Jesus was sleeping. The disciples freaked out. Jesus woke up rebuked the storm everything went calm. The disciples were amazed. 

Jesus healed a couple of men with demons. The demon was “fierce that no one could pass that way. … He came to Jesus and Jesus talked with the demon…” They knew Jesus was God. Jesus would send the demons into a herd of pigs which ran over a cliff and all died. The people of the town were scared because of this and asked Jesus to leave. 

Mark 4 A sower has seeds fall along a path, poor soil areas, thorns, & good soil. The point is that some people will not understand the word of God. Satan will come and snatch away what God has sewn into a lot of peoples hearts. However, there are some that will hear the word and grab a hold of it. Others will simply have the cares of the world take over what God had started. Why did Jesus speak in parables? He was revealing mysteries to his chosen people. If God reveals it to you you will understand in abundance, if not, you will not understand and you actually be at a deficit. People that understand what God says are fulfilling prophecy. 

Mark 5 Tells the same story (close) to the demon possessed man and the pigs… Also, how Jairus’ daughter was healed by Jesus. Jaiurs - He was the ruler of the synagogue. His only daughter was 12 years old and dying. He came to Jesus for help in Jesus agreed to go to his daughter. On the way there a lady who had been bleeding for 12 years touched Jesus and was immediately healed. Jesus knew the power had gone out from him even though there was people all around touching him. The lady knew that she had to be honest and Jesus tells her that her faith has healed her… go in peace. While he was healing her, Jairus’ daughter died. Regardless, Jesus went to her and brought her back to life! And her spirit returned to her.

To sum it all up: 

• The calming of the waters… What was His question to the disciples? "Why are you afraid, O you of little faith?” Is He perhaps asking you that today?
• Do you trust in God's Word that has been sewn into your life and are you fruitfully producing for Him?
