About this study

Thanks for stopping by my site. I decided last year (2015) to do a Bible study/commentary while going through the Bible chronologically. It is geared more towards those who haven't read much of the Bible... Join me on this journey?

October 12: Matthew 11

October 12, Matthew 11

Matthew continued…

Matthew 11 We read this yesterday as well in Luke 7. Jesus had just come down from teaching all the people, including His 12 disciples. Now it was time for Jesus to teach and preach in the cities. John the Baptists wants to confirm that Jesus is the Messiah - the answer… Yup!  When John’s disciples were with Jesus they saw him healing, blind receive sight, demons kicked out… Then Jesus explains that John had come to fulfill Scripture and none was greater than John. Yet, because of Jesus now, the least in the kingdom are greater than John - John was still part of the old covenant proclaiming what was coming. What was coming (Jesus) had come, so those who believe in Jesus are greater than that because of Jesus.
Jesus was accused of being a drunk & a glutton because he hung out with ‘sinners’ - those are the people Jesus came to save. Jesus was different than the Pharisees and they didn't like it that He was different and that He was claiming to be God.
Then Jesus denounced the cities that He had done awesome miracles in and people didn't repent of their sins. Even Sodom would have repented if they would have witnessed what Jesus was doing - these people had hard hearts…Judgement day will be horrific for those unrepentant towns.
Come to Jesus and you will receive rest. In our day and age, rest sounds amazing because it seems as though our pace of life is in fast forward for the most part. God reveals His love to those He chooses to reveal it. Jesus has God’s authority and God gave Him that.
Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” How sweet the sound - Jesus did not put on extra rules to follow to be holy - like the Pharisees did. Jesus wants you to come to Him, believe in Him - and He will handle the heavy lifting.

To sum it all up:

  • Repent from your sins and look at the amazing things that Jesus has done in your life.
  • Do you hang out with sinners with the intent of showing them Jesus Christ? Or do you hang out with sinners because you are one and you need someone to show you Jesus Christ?
  • Come to Jesus. He will not put a bunch of burden on you. Christ takes our burdens when we give them to Him and He takes care of us. Praise God!
