About this study

Thanks for stopping by my site. I decided last year (2015) to do a Bible study/commentary while going through the Bible chronologically. It is geared more towards those who haven't read much of the Bible... Join me on this journey?

July 22: Isaiah 28-30

July 22, Isaiah 28-30

Isaiah 28 The days of pride for Israel & Judah will come to an end and fade like a flower. God will soon be their crown of Glory again to His chosen few. Those that turn to Him will be strengthened. Those that reject God will not be able to stand, like a drunk man. However, at the time that Isaiah wrote this, most Israelites had rejected God and God was rebuking them through Isaiah the Prophet. They relied on themselves - not on God. God knows how to reach His people and take care of them and God will go to extreme measures to have His people obey Him.

Isaiah 29 Fake and empty worship is displeasing to God and it actually sorrows Him (and angers Him). God loves His people and will not tolerate their sinfulness. God will pull away His blessings from them and sadly, Isaiah knows that they still won’t get it. God has closed their eyes and ears because of their disobedience.
Isaiah realized that the Israelites really didn't know Yahweh (which showed through their empty worship). Their mouths said one thing but their hearts were inclined elsewhere. However, in God’s Grace & Mercy, He will someday draw them back.
We then get to read about the coming Savior - Jesus Christ. The Gentiles (non-Jews) will someday be grafted in to God, and this happens because of Jesus coming. Jesus will do many miracles and the meek and poor will know joy & peace, while the ruthless will be punished. God kept His Word & sent us Jesus!

Isaiah 30 We lean that God is faithful even we the Israelites (and us) are unfaithful. We learn as well that Judah turned to Egypt for help instead of God and God put them to shame for that. Egypt was worthless compared to God and that is who they went to. They were a rebellious people who despised God’s Words, so punishment came to them. Isaiah pleads for them to repent and receive God’s Grace. Know this - when you repent and come back to God, you will hear and see God and you will want to get rid of your idols. From that point, you will be blessed! God even made the Assyrians (their enemy) terror stricken! Nothing is impossible for God!

To sum it all up:

  • When you repent and come back to God, you will hear and see God and you will want to get rid of your idols.
  • Whatever you are going through - remember that God can and will do all things to accomplish His purposes. Trust in Him and nothing else - He will never fail you, even if it feels like it.
