About this study

Thanks for stopping by my site. I decided last year (2015) to do a Bible study/commentary while going through the Bible chronologically. It is geared more towards those who haven't read much of the Bible... Join me on this journey?

August 13: Jeremiah 23-25

August 13, Jeremiah 23-25

Jeremiah 23 There is a strict warning for leaders who misguide God’s people. If you are a leader, be very cautious about how you go about taking care of God’s kids. The shepherds of that time had scattered the people, not taken care of them, and driven them away. God will repay them for their evil deeds. God’s plan is to bring His remnant back and this actually started to happen around 538 B.C., just like God said it would. Then Jeremiah writes about a righteous branch that will come and deal with the world. That would be none other than Jesus!
God had another word for the false prophets and Jeremiah was the one to deliver it. The prophets were to preach truth and also share what was going to be happening. Instead they were teaching lies and serving the wrong leader… The land was full of idolatry and adulterers. Both the prophets and the priests were ungodly. False prophets and priests would be punished. God tells the people not to even listen to them. They make up what they want to and tickle the ears of God’s people. They are liars and they should be getting prepared for God’s wrath.

Jeremiah 24 The good figs and the bad figs. God gave Jeremiah a vision of good figs and bad gigs. God asked Jeremiah if he could see it, and Jeremiah could. The good figs represented the exiles of Judah and how God will bring them back and have their hearts. They will be His people again. The bad figs represent those against God. They will be taken out and destroyed.

Jeremiah 25 starts another round of Jeremiah calling out the people and especially calling them to repentance. They are sitting in their self-inflicted sin and have provoked God to anger. They have not listened. God will use Nebuchadnezzar as His servant to destroy them. The cup of God’s wrath will be poured out on them. God eventually did what He said he was going to do…

To sum it all up:

  • We cannot hide our sins from God. If you live a pretend Christian life, my encouragement would be to stop it immediately. God is not fooled or mocked.
  • Repent now and come running to the only thing that can save you - Jesus Christ
