About this study

Thanks for stopping by my site. I decided last year (2015) to do a Bible study/commentary while going through the Bible chronologically. It is geared more towards those who haven't read much of the Bible... Join me on this journey?

March 13: Deuteronomy 5-7

March 13, Deuteronomy 5-7

Deuteronomy 5. This is a recap of the Ten Commandments that the Lord gave to Moses - as Moses was standing in between God and them because they were afraid. For a thorough explanation, please visit this link to the Exodus 20 study. The remainder of the chapter contains Moses reminding them to keep God first and obey Him - a commandment to them, and a very stern warning, as they have been prone to forget from time to time…

Deuteronomy 6 states very clearly some very profound truths. Love God with all your soul, heart and mind. That is all of you, including your thoughts. He goes a step further - teach the commandments to your kids, even write them on your house as you enter - so they do not FORGET! Remember, that the majority of Deuteronomy is in preparation for the Israelites entering the Promised Land, a Land that was promised to their forefathers, and God is keeping good on His Words. I like how Moses tells them that the land that the will be entering was given to them, as well as the houses, the trees, vineyards and food - all of these are a gift from the Lord and they are not to forget that it is He - Yahweh - that gave it to them.
He also reminds them that they are to always do what is right before the Lord so that He may protect them and that it may go well for them - same goes for us…

Deuteronomy 7 is where through Moses, God explains that His relationship with the Israelites is exclusive and that they must completely destroy those that God tells them to - so that they don't intermarry with them and become like them… having numerous gods, faithless and corrupt. Moses also reminds them that it is not because they are special that God chose them. It was not because they were the greatest. It was not because they deserved it. It was because promised to their forefathers and God is fulfilling it - because He is Faithful.
They are reminded again to fear nothing but God. We need to be reminded of this too. Fear can paralyze us and deter us from pursuing Him. Don't let that happen to you… God is a great and awesome God!!!

To sum it all up:

  • God is calling us to Love Him with all our soul, heart and mind. We get sidetracked from time to time and can forget - let it not be so. We really have no good excuse for not pursuing him every day of our lives. I think it is when we are not walking in obedience with Him that we stray from Him…
  • Everything that we have is a gift from the Lord.
