About this study

Thanks for stopping by my site. I decided last year (2015) to do a Bible study/commentary while going through the Bible chronologically. It is geared more towards those who haven't read much of the Bible... Join me on this journey?

Feb 12: Exodus 39-40

Feb 12, Exodus 39-40

Well, if you have been reading this plan with us, you just finished another old Testament book of the Bible, congratulations! You have learned a lot of the stories you may have heard about but didn't quite understand, and I hope that you have a better understanding now as we have gone through the book of Exodus together. Keep it up!

Exodus 39 is the summation of the final task, making the priestly garments for Aaron and his sons. The details are all there, and you know by now, that God cares about the details. Look at how many times it says in this chapter, "As the Lord commanded Moses." It is incredible, all the details that came to be, were a direct result of God saying what He wanted and Moses and the Israelites obeying! That is what we are supposed to be doing! Look at the picture of what they might have had to dress up like…

Exodus 40  is when they finally complete the tabernacle and get ready to set it up. Again, Yahweh tells Moses what it is that He wants, including how to set it up and when. God wants it consecrated with oil (set apart for Him) so that it becomes holy. Again, Moses did all that the Lord commanded him to do, I love that obedience even when it is detailed and crazy. The book of Exodus ends with the cloud filled with the Glory of the Lord, covering the tent of meeting. Throughout all of the Israelites journeying from this point forth - if the cloud moved, they moved. If the cloud stayed, they stayed. They did not make a move without God being in front of them. Do you see any correlations for our own faith here? Often times we get up and go when God is saying to wait or we wait when God is saying get up and go! We need to be following the Lord, not leading without Him in front of us. This is basic stuff here, but it is actually hard to do when we think we know best.

To sum it all up:
  • Like the Israelites, we should not make a move without God being in front of us… We need to be following Yahweh not trying to lead Yahweh
